Im Mai widmen wir den digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate denjenigen Menschen, die viel für die Comicszene machen, ohne richtig in den Vordergrund zu tretten. Und einer der besten Vertreter dieser Kategorie ist Jakob Hoffmann. Unser diesmalige Mentor ist Gründer und Organisator des Kinder-Comicsfestivals YIPPIE!, außerdem rufte er das von ihm herausgegebene Kindercomicmagazin POLLE ins Leben. Bekannt ist er noch als Veranstalter und Moderator von Comic-Lesungen und als Organisator von Comic-Ausstellungen. Und das macht er nur nebenbei. Denn Jakob Hoffmann ist hauptberuflich in der Jugendarbeit tätig. Er wohnt in Frankfurt am Main.

In May, we are dedicating the digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate to people who do a lot for the comics scene without really coming to the fore. And one of the best representatives of this category is Jakob Hoffmann. Our mentor this time is the founder and organizer of the children's comics festival YIPPIE! and he also launched und edits the children's comics magazine POLLE. Besides, he is known as organizer and host of comics readings and as the organizer of comics exhibitions. And he only does this on the side, because Jakob Hoffmann works full-time as trainer in a Scout organisation. He lives in Frankfurt am Main.

Also um das mal Klarzustellen: Renate war nicht angepisst. Gut der Typ roch nicht gut, hatte vielleicht im Leben schon das eine oder andere Gläschen zuviel getrunken, und ja er war etwas nervig gewesen als er – ausgerechnet ihr! – vorhin erklären wollte was der Unterschied zwischen ein Marderhaarpinsel Stärke 00 und einen Radierbesen sei, aber Alles in Allen mochte sie Enten. Süß-sauer, mit Tolle und die mit vier Rädern sowieso, Matrosenanzug oder Nieten, aber dieser Typ war sooooo…

So let's get this straight: Renate wasn't pissed off. Well, the guy didn't smell good, had perhaps had a drink or two too many in his life, and yes, he had been a bit annoying when he - to her of all people! - what the difference was between a marten hair brush strength 00 and an eraser brush, but all in all she liked ducks. Sweet and sour, with quiffs and the ones with four wheels anyway, sailor suits or studs, but this guy was sooooo...

Mo. 7.04 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Wiebke Bolduan

Es ist Frühling in Deutschland, alles blüht wieder auf, und um der schönsten Jahreszeit gerecht zu werden, holten wir uns für den digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate eine neue Generation, die die Comicszene zum Aufblühen bringt. Denn das Mentoring im April übernimmt Wiebke Bolduan (dey/deren): Geboren 1994 nahe Eisenach, Wiebke Bolduan hat Illustration an der Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg studiert. Für deren Abschlussarbeit »Warnebi« (Selbstverlag) wurde dey 2022 mit einem GINCO Award geehrt. Im gleichen Jahr erschien in der Reihe Shorts im MamiVerlag »Gedanken über Gedanken«. 2024 erschien Wiebkes Graphic Novel »Viktoria Aal« bei Reprodukt, eine Geschichte über eine unglückliche Autorin, Meerjungfrauen und den schwierigen Weg zu Selbstakzeptanz. Wiebke Bolduan lebt und arbeitet in Hamburg und ist dort Teil des Organisationsteams des Comicfestivals.

It's spring in Germany, everything is blossoming again, and to do justice to the most beautiful season of the year, we've brought to the digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate a new generation, which is helping the comics scene to blossom. In April, Wiebke Bolduan (they/their/them) takes over the mentoring: born in 1994 near Eisenach, they studied illustration at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. In 2022, they were honored with a GINCO Award for their graduation project "Warnebi" (self-published). In the same year, "Gedanken über Gedanken" was published in the Shorts series by MamiVerlag. In 2024, Wiebke's graphic novel "Viktoria Aal" was published by Reprodukt, a story about an unhappy author, mermaids and the difficult path to self-acceptance. Wiebke Bolduan lives and works in Hamburg, where they are part of the Comicfestival organization team.

Im Märzen die Renate den Traktor vorspannt, bearbeitet die Panels, skribbelt den Band – naja Musik ist vielleicht nicht unbedingt Renates Stärke. Aber zeichen und pflanzen? Wie auch immer, lasst uns gerne auf den legendären Comicstammtisch über Comics und Liedgut reden!

Ab 2026 braucht die Renate-Comicbibliothek einen neuen Raum.
Für die Rette Renate Kampanie brauchen wir viele Renate-Bilder – doch wie sieht Renate eigentlich aus? Ist sie 35 Jahre, trägt sie gerne Röcke, Achselhaare, ist sie lang oder kurz… Wir brauchen DEIN Renate Bild!

Mo. 3.03 ab 20h Comicstammtisch mit / Comics Meetup with Christian A. Bachmann

Wir kommen zum dritten digitalen Stammtisch der Comicbibliothek Renate im Jahr 2025 mit einigen ernsten Fragen in Kopf: Haben Wissenschaftler*innen, die sich der Comicforschung widmen, mehr Spaß bei der Arbeit? Wird der Comic durch die Arbeit der Comicforschung seriöser? Oder anders formuliert: Was macht die Comicforschung aus? Antworten auf diese und andere grundlegende Fragen soll der März-Mentor Christian A. Bachmann liefern. Er studierte Allgemeinen und Vergleichenden Literaturwissenschaft sowie Linguistik in Bochum. 2015 wurde er mit einer Arbeit über die Metamedialität und Materialität von Comics (Roland-Faelske-Preis 2016) promoviert. Seit 2010 forschte er in verschiedenen Forschungsprojekten zu Comics, Bildergeschichten, Künstlerbüchern, Zeitschriften, Bilderbüchern und Videospielen. Seit 2008 ist er als Wissenschaftsverleger tätig, wofür er 2018 mit dem ICOM Independent Comic Preis ausgezeichnet wurde. Er hatte Lehraufträge an Universitäten in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz inne. Im Wintersemester 2024/25 vertritt er die Professur für Game Design an der Hochschule Macromedia in Berlin. Er hat mehrere Bücher über Comics geschrieben und betreibt den Ch. A. Bachmann-Verlag, der u.a. Bücher der Comicforschung herausgibt.

ENGLISH:

We approach the third digital meetup of the Comics Library Renate in this year with some serious questions in mind: Do academics who dedicate themselves to comics studies have more fun at work? Does the work of comics studies make comics more serious? Or to put it in other words: What constitutes comics studies? Answers to these and other fundamental questions will be provided by the March mentor Christian A. Bachmann. He studied general and comparative literature and linguistics in Bochum. He received his doctorate in 2015 with a thesis on the metamediality and materiality of comics (Roland Faelske Prize 2016). Since 2010, he has been involved in various research projects on comics, picture stories, artists' books, magazines, picture books and video games. He has been working as a science publisher since 2008, for which he was awarded the ICOM Independent Comic Prize in 2018. He has held teaching positions at universities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In the winter semester 2024/25, he is holding the professorship for Game Design at the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. He has written several books about comics and runs the Ch. A. Bachmann publishing house, which publishes books on comics studies, among other topics.

Weiss. Alles Weiss. Nur weisse Flächen kein Himmel, kein Boden. Die Wölfe heulten und der Wind pfiff. Die eisige Weiten waren erdrückend weit und doch eng. Da nahm Renate ihre Feder und zog eine schwarze Linie durch das ewige Weiss.
Angst vor dem weissen Blatt? Zeichenblockaden? Keine Angst! Der Comicstammtisch hilft Dir! Wie immer Montag ab 19:00 Uhr, diesmal am 10. Februar 2025. In der Renate Comicbibliothek, Tucholskystraße 32.

White. All white. Only white areas, no sky, no ground. The wolves howled and the wind whistled. The icy expanses were oppressively wide and yet narrow. Renate took her pen and drew a black line through the eternal white.
